Details
Hydrosave were commissioned as consultants to establish a robust method for identifying and selecting mains which generate a high discolouration potential within the water supply network. These mains would then be considered for replacement, rehabilitation or other remedial activity. From this request Hydrosave developed a discolouration risk model ‘D-Risk’ which uses the outputs from hydraulic models and regulatory reporting data to evaluate and assess the specific risks associated with individual pipe lengths. This then facilitates the production of a spatial map detailing the level of risk within a DMA or WSZ and is used to assist in the development of a bespoke water quality management strategy.
Challenges
Data availability and validity, GIS integration. Hydraulic model calibration.
Outcomes
- Bespoke modelling tool
- Capital programmes identified
- Preventative maintenance plan developed
- Reduced risk of customer complaints
- Target network standards (TNS) compliance
